MCSP 77th Junior Rodeo
Monterey County Sheriff’s Posse celebrates its 77th Junior Rodeo. Sign-ups will take place on our website in early July for our annual event, the longest continuous running Junior Rodeo in California. We have Pee Wee Events for 2–5 year old’s and rodeo and equestrian events for 6–18 year old’s in different age brackets. Come out and participate or watch our youth compete for our coveted buckles and all-around saddles.
No Refunds will be given without a medical or vet certificate
Visiting Posse
Join us as we celebrate our Visiting Posse organizations who participate in the Salinas California Rodeo Colma Del Rodeo Parade. Saturday after the rodeo enjoy an evening of BBQ and dancing. This event is family friendly and always a good time.
Big Hat BBQ
The Big Hat BBQ celebrates its 111th rendition in July of 2024
The Big Hat was started in 1913 by California Rodeo Director Bill Jeffery when he heard a train was coming with 1,700 people to watch the rodeo. Jeffrey decided to throw a BBQ in downtown Salinas on a vacant lot. He called in favors and help from all over Salinas to build tables, dig pits and bring meat, bread and food. In 1946, The Monterey County Sheriff’s Posse took over the Big Hat BBQ and continues the tradition as a kickoff To the Salinas California Rodeo.
